How Can You Help
You may be thinking, "what can I do, this is such a big problem" but the answer is quite simple there are many things that we can do to help to end poverty in Canada.
Be Educated: the more you know about child poverty the more likely you are to do something about it. There are a lot of resources on the internet.
Make the Government Accountable: although we are too young to vote we can talk to our parents about the issues and hopefully they will help to make the government accountable for past promises.
Donate: There are so many charitable organizations that you can donate to, we have listed some below:
- Food Banks - donate at your local food bank, they accept donations of food, or money, and some will also accept some clothing and blankets, etc.
- The Vancouver Sun - Adopt a School Programs - this program helps thousands of kids in B.C. by providing breakfast and lunch to students who would have otherwise gone to school hungry. http://www.vansunkidsfund.ca/
- Indigo Adopt a School Program - this program helps to rejuvenate underfunded elementary-school libraries across Canada and improve students’ literacy skills. http://adoptaschool.indigo.ca/
- Big Brothers - donate money, or clothing or volunteer your time as a mentor http://www.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca/en/home/default.aspx
- Salvation Army - donate money, clothing, or other household items, or volunteer your time http://www.salvationarmy.ca/
